Board Review & Certification Resources

Family Medicine certification is available through the following organizations. Their respective web pages offer helpful exam information such as sample questions, content outlines, important dates, fees and registration information. Be sure to check eligibility requirements to see which exam certification is right for you.

• The American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) - administers board certification and maintenance of certification programs in accordance with standards set by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). 
  • The ABFM also offers a certification pathway for osteopathic physicians.
  • ABFM  offers a variety of other subspecialty certifications, often offered in conjunction with other member boards.
• American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, a member board of the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (AOABOS).
  • The AOFP offers a variety of other subspecialty certifications under the Certification Process dropdown menu at the top.

The ABFM offers a variety of information on the In-Training Exam, including a Bayesian Score Predictor tool and Content Outline.

BoardVitals is an online exam review tool that gives you access to high quality Family Medicine board review questions with detailed answers to help you prepare for the certification exams.  The Family Medicine question bank follows the exam content outline for the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) Certification Examination. Follow these instructions to set-up your account and start reviewing!

Registration

1. The first time logging in, go to BoardVitals New User Registration to begin registering for an account.
2. You must use your HFHS email address to create the account! This is how they know you're part of our subscription. (Your password can be anything you wish.) 
3. You'll receive an email to verify your account. Click the verification link in the email, then log into BoardVitals with the credentials you just created. 

Using the Question Bank

1. Login to BoardVitals https://www.boardvitals.com/users/sign_in#
   1. From the BoardVitals homepage, DO NOT fill in the "occupation" and "Exam" dropdowns to locate the Question Banks. Instead, click on "My Dashboard" in the top right corner.
   2. From your Dashboard, choose the desired Question Bank from the dropdown in the dark blue toolbar at the top of the page.

McGraw-Hill's AccessMedicine generates review questions from Graber and Wilbur's Family Medicine Examination & Board Review, 5th edition. Click Study Tools > Review Questions > Clinical Practice & Board Review.

You will be prompted to create a free MyAccess account in order to generate the quizzes. Your MyAccess account gives you access to review questions across the various topics in the Sladen Library subscription.
