About Sladen Library

Check Out the New Sladen Library!

Made possible by Medical Education Grant Funding, the Sladen Library is excited to announce our newly remodeled space! Nearly forty years since the Library was last updated, it was long overdue not only for a fresh coat of paint and new furniture, but a space that would accommodate new ways of learning and technology. We have that now, and are very happy to welcome our library users.

What’s New
  • An updated computer area. Twelve computers are available for HFHS employee use. The new computer tables allow for adequate social distancing and comfort between users. Incidentally, this design was planned pre-COVID but ended up working out perfectly for the new guidelines!
  • In addition to our existing computer Training Room, we’ve added more spaces that can be reserved for meetings and group collaboration. Visit the booking page for information about reserving a room.

  • Conference Room: A previous library staff space has been repurposed into a conference room that can be booked for HFH employee use. The conference room features a 75” monitor with HDMI connectivity capability, a Polycom phone for teleconferencing, and seating for 4 (once COVID regulations are lifted, the room will seat 8).
  • Two Collaborations Rooms: Space in the rear of the library that previously housed our print journal collection has been converted into two glass-walled Collaboration Rooms. Each Collaboration Room is equipped with a television monitor with HDMI connectivity capability built into the table top, a whiteboard, and comfortable seating.

Added amenities
  • New tables and chairs throughout the library. The tables in the study area are equipped with electrical outlets for charging your devices or powering up a laptop. We still have comfortable seating! That has been updated also.
  • Ten private study carrels line the windows along the east and west sides of the library. These desks are designed for users that prefer to work in a more private, secluded environment.
  • Refreshed paint, carpeting, window shades, and signage throughout.
  • Built-in reference book shelving and new book display area.
  • A dedicated computer within the print book collection provides easy access when you need to search the online catalog for a book title.

The Sladen Library remodel has been in the works for years. Progress halted when the world was brought to a stop by the global pandemic, but we are back up and running. The Library is very grateful that Henry Ford Health System and Medical Education recognize the important role library services and the library as a place plays within our institution. This remodel is not for the sole benefit of the Sladen Library, but hopefully every user we welcome through our doors each day.
