Borrowing Library Material FAQs

 

All Henry Ford Health team members, students in Henry Ford educational programs, and individuals affiliated with Henry Ford Health who have a valid employee ID badge are eligible to check out library materials. 

Patients and visitors are not eligible to check-out library materials or utilize services such as interlibrary loan (ILLiad). 

Your employee ID badge functions as your "library card." The first time you check out items, you will be required to fill out a Patron Registration Form. You can do this in advance online, or in the library: https://henryford.libwizard.com/f/sladen-reg

On subsequent visits, you just need to present your ID badge to check out items.

Books = 3 weeks, 2 renewals allowed (if there is not a hold on the book)

Audiovisuals (DVDs, CDs, VHS) = 1 week, 2 renewals allowed (if there is not a hold on the item)

Henry Ford Hospital team members may have a maximum of 7 items checked out at one time. 

Students affiliated with Henry Ford Hospital programs who have a Henry Ford Health ID badge (i.e. nursing students, rad-tech students, and others rotating through HFH for a semester) may have a maximum of 5 items checked out at one time. 

An item can be renewed up to 2 times, unless there is a hold placed on it, in which case it must be returned. You can call (313-916-2550) or visit the Sladen Library to have us renew your items.

You may also renew your own checkouts within our online book catalog. To renew your own books, you will have to login to the catalog which requires creating a PIN (for first time users). Use your employee badge number as your Username, and then click on "Forgot my PIN" to create a four-digit PIN. Once you are able to login to the catalog, visit the My Account link to manage book renewals.

Books ordered through ILLiad and sent from other libraries require special permission from the lending library to renew. Please contact the Sladen Library if you wish to renew an ordered book.

The Library does not charge overdue fines. However, you will be responsible for the full cost of items, plus a processing fee, for materials that are lost or damaged while checked out to you. 

If you do not return your library materials, you will receive overdue notices. If the item(s) is not returned after two overdue notices, your borrowing privileges will be suspended until the item(s) is returned. Once the item(s) is returned, or replacement fee paid, your borrowing privileges will be re-instated.

A hold is used to flag library materials that you want but are checked out by another patron. When the material is returned, our computer system will alert us that you have placed a hold and we will set the material aside for you to pick up. 

You may place a hold on a book yourself within our online book catalog. To place holds, you will have to login to the catalog which requires creating a PIN (for first time users). Use your employee badge number as your Username, and then click on "Forgot my PIN" to create a four-digit PIN. Once you are logged into the catalog, use the "Place Hold" button on an item to hold. Library staff will contact you when your item is available to pick up. 

You can also call the Information Desk at 313-916-2550 to place a hold.   

Use our online catalog to search the Sladen collection. Feel free to contact the Library to ask about an item. If something you need is not owned by Sladen, you can use ILLiad to request the item from another library
