Health Statistics

The mission of the Statistics Section of the APHA is to promote sound statistical practice in public health. The application of appropriate statistical methods by public health professionals and policy makers optimizes the allocation of limited public health resources.

The Health Policy Statistics Section has specific interest in fostering statistical methodological research relevant to health care and policy research.

Health Datapalooza is a national conference born from government efforts to liberate health data. The conference is a forum that features the newest and most innovative and effective uses of health data by companies, startups, academics, government agencies and individuals.

The National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO) is a national non-profit membership and educational association dedicated to improving health care data collection and use. NAHDO’s members include state and private health data organizations that maintain statewide health care databases and stakeholders of these databases. NAHDO is a cofounder and member of the All Payer Claims Database (APCD) Council, which provides leadership and technical assistance to states implementing APCDs.

The Research Data Assistance Center (ResDAC) is a CMS contractor that provides free assistance to academic, government and non-profit researchers interested in using Medicare and/or Medicaid data for their research. ResDAC is staffed by a consortium of epidemiologists, public health specialists, health services researchers, biostatisticians, and health informatics specialists from the University of Minnesota.
