October is National Medical Librarians Month

The Medical Library Association recognizes every October as National Medical Librarians Month (NMLM). This year’s theme is, “Yes, we do that!” A simple sentence that represents the service philosophy and diverse set of skills held by our medical librarians and medical library staff.

National Medical Librarians Month

During the period of January to July of 2023, Sladen librarians worked on and completed 423 literature search requests. In 2022, our medical librarians assisted in 27 in-depth literature searches to be used for systematic reviews and/or clinical guideline development. But our services don’t stop at the reference desk. We support scholarly publishing by providing manuscript preparation services and maintaining an institutional repository of Henry Ford Health publications. We support access to resources by providing document delivery of articles and books; working with vendors and publishing companies to license and maintain an excellent collection of online databases, journals, and books; and producing a library website from which these services and resources can be accessed 24/7.

To help us celebrate National Medical Librarians Month, we encourage you to use our resources and services. We work hard to provide an excellent library experience. So whether you need assistance with expert searching, instruction and training, or finding the best information to support improved patient outcomes, ask us because – yes, we do that - and so much more!
