Library Instruction at Henry Ford Macomb during Covid-19

Around one year ago, during the early part of the Covid-19 lockdown, nearly all library instruction at Henry Ford Macomb Library was put on hold for several months. When education resumed, Macomb Library staff used new techniques to meet those needs. For example, for the Nurse Residency Program (NRP), a nursing cohort interested in pursuing research in nursing, we redesigned the format and chose a new location for our live instruction. We split the cohort up into smaller groups to allow us to teach with fewer participants in each group. As we were no longer able to meet in the close quarters of the computer lab, we met in the large conference rooms instead. Unfortunately, this meant hands-on modules had to be removed from the instruction, and the opportunities to practice live are limited.

We still continue to provide instruction on how to locate and access items in the catalog, but we will have to wait a little longer before we can resume the hands-on modules that focus on searching. Normally, exercises would allow for users to practice searching and accessing full-text articles with an expert present. We do have slides to demonstrate and distribute, but unfortunately nurses have no way to practice live. Some took advantage of the class and sent articles to jumpstart their research.

Until we can resume this type of instruction, please contact the Macomb Library for help and tips on searching the literature.
