April is Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month

April is Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month. This awareness month began in 1986 as Mathematics Awareness Week, a way to highlight mathematics and help the public understand the varied applications of mathematics across different job fields. In 1999, Mathematics Awareness Week became an awareness month, and in 2017, the field of statistics was added to raise awareness of both fields and their usefulness in modern life.

Here at Henry Ford Health, most of the research papers written by physicians, residents, and staff require some level of statistics and statistical analysis. Many individuals struggle with locating the necessary statistics, and then performing the required analysis. Fortunately, Henry Ford Health is aware of this difficulty, and has a department available to help people with their data and statistical compilation/analysis needs. At the Public Health Services (PHS) department, skilled programmers are available to access data repositories to help define populations of interest or to provide data on health care services received by study populations. To request their assistance, submit a Request for PHS Collaboration online intake form.

You may also request data from EPIC using the following process:

  1. Navigate to: https://hfhs.service-now.com
  2. Login with your Henry Ford Health Corp ID (User name) and Password
  3. Click on “Services” under the “Order Things” category
  4. Click on “HFHS Report Request New report request for Epic
  5. Populate all fields (refer to Page 2: Epic Report Request Form Description)
  6. Once you complete filling out the form, click on “Order Now” to submit request

In addition, MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine offers scholarly activity support services, including assistance with project design, data collection, and statistical analysis. You will need to complete their Scholarly Activity Consultation Request form to begin the process.
