How Do I Get Help With....

You can get help with finding information for your project by contacting the Wyandotte Medical Library for a Literature Search request. The library is located on the 4th Floor of the Honor Building, across from the Rehab Elevator. You may contact the library several ways

or Telephone 734-246-7361

Make your request in person during library hours

Complete an Online Information Request Form

If you choose to do your own literature search, badge swipe after-hours access is available.

You will need to decide what type of article you wish to write and publish, as that will determine the detail of the literature search, and the documentation of the search that is returned to you. Sladen Library has a Systematic Literature Review Request form that must be completed if you feel you want a systematic review or meta-analysis.

MEDLINE/PubMed has a PICO search interface which may help as well.

If you decide on a systematic review or meta-analysis, using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA)process may help as well.

If you are the principal investigator (PI), you will need to complete  the Basic Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative or CITI Responsible Conduct of Research course.

  • NOTE: The CITI training MUST be completed PRIOR to IRB approval.

Once the initial CITI training is complete, the IRB requires PIs to have at least one hour per year of continuing education in human research subject protection. The Refresher CITI Course and the Good Clinical Practice Course are good choices for the first two years. After that the PI may choose other courses of particular interest.

  •  IRB forms and information are located online.

MSU-COM also offers IRB assistance.

Stephanie Stebens at Sladen can help you with this, and with manuscript preparation.

Assistance with journal publication will help you to:

  • Determine a journal's impact factor
  • Determine if a journal is accepting publications of your type. For example, not all journals publish case studies.
  • Decide if the journal is indexed in PubMed
  • Determine if the journal charges any publication charges. These can include submission fees, page charges, and article processing charges.

NOTE: : If your article/research is accepted to a Journal indexed in PubMed, the article will be assigned a PubMed ID. Not all journals are indexed in PubMed.

Stephanie has written a few Sladen Library blog posts on the topic of choosing a journal.

She has also published several guides on author assistance, manuscript preparation, and copyright.

If you would like assistance with the editing process, you may contact Karla Passalacqua with a completed HFHS Medical Education Editorial Services Request Form

NOTE:  First author MUST be a Resident/Fellow, Program Director, or Medical Student.

Sladen Library can also help you with manuscript preparation.

  • Creating specific citation styles for your publication, poster presentation, grant, cv, and more
  • Meeting specific style and formatting guidelines required by the journal
  • Light grammar checking

Please note: there is a minimum 1 week turnaround time for this service.
