Henry Ford Providence Southfield Reference Services  

 

The library provides free literature searches by professional librarians to all staff. We undertake literature searches to support the full range of work-related and staff information needs, including:

  1. Patient care
  2. Service development
  3. Research
  4. Guideline development
  5. Animal Alternatives in Research

Who can request reference services?

All physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, team members, and affiliated students at Henry Ford Providence - Southfield, Novi, Rochester, and the Brighton Center for Recovery are eligible.


How do I request a literature search?

Fill out the Literature Search Request form as completely as possible. For best results, we encourage you to discuss your search requirements with the librarian. This can be done in person or on the phone (248) 849-3294. 


I've submitted my request, what happens next?

Completion time:

  • Literature searches are run on a first come, first served basis and take between 3 and 5 business days. 
  • Emergency patient care searches are completed within 4 hours. Please contact the librarian immediately after submitting a patient care emergency search request.  

Receiving the results:

  • Search results are emailed to you as a list of citations with abstracts (when available).
  • Included in the list is a link to Find It @ Sladen, which tells you if we have access to the item or not. 
    • If we have access to the item online, Find It @ Sladen provides a link directly to the article.
    • If we do not have access to the item, Find It @ Sladen provides a link to request the article through the Library's Interlibrary Loan Service.
