Cover imageSladen Library has just added a new journal to our collection—NEJM Evidence. The journal, published by the New England Journal of Medicine, is an online-only, peer-reviewed general medicine journal. Published monthly, NEJM Evidence will highlight original research and new ideas in clinical decision-making.

The aim of this new journal is to “focus on providing more context and critical evaluation of the methods and results to support clinical decision-making and does so in a way that respects the time and commitment of the practitioner.”

"Our goal for NEJM Evidence is to make the methods section fun and engaging, inspiring readers to be highly critical consumers and examiners of clinical trials," said Chana A. Sacks, M.D., M.P.H., Executive Editor of NEJM Evidence. "The new journal enables us to publish outstanding research and contextualize it in a way that will change medicine and practice."

Designed to engage a younger audience in conversations around medical research, the new journal includes Stats, STAT!, which explains statistical concepts through brief animated videos.

NEJM Evidence will publish:

• Original research, clinical trials, and other clinically-grounded work that validates or challenges prior clinical findings.

• Standard reviews, systematic reviews, and other reviews that contextualize research findings.

• Case studies, journal club formats, and reviews of clinical trial methodology that enhance the understanding of trial strengths and weaknesses.

• The “Morning Report” series will present short case reports and will be authored by members of clinical training programs from around the world.

• “Tomorrow’s Trial” series are short pieces that highlight accepted practices lacking solid evidence and invite clinician readers to propose clinical trials to fill those gaps.

• The “Curbside Consult” series will address clinical questions that physicians face on daily rounds. These short review articles are meant to provide the best current answers to focused questions – short enough to read quickly, and authoritative enough to leave the physician comfortable making clinical decisions grounded in evidence.

• The ”Patient Platform” allows patients who have been in a clinical trial or part of a research study to share thoughts on their experience.
