Introduction

This toolkit is provided to assist you in finding the information you need in the field of Pharmacy.  If you need assistance, contact the Sladen Information Desk.

Click on the tabs along the top of the page to see the Pharmacy resources in each category.

 

Access

Sladen databases and electronic resources are available for Henry Ford Health System employees and affiliated students. 

• If you are using a computer at a Henry Ford Health System facility you will not need a User Name and Password to access online resources.

• For offsite access from home or another location, you will need to sign in.

• Most users can login to the library remotely using their HFHS User Name and Password (it's the same as your HFHS Outlook User Name and Password).

Search the Literature - Key Databases & Resources

The following is a list of Sladen Library databases that will be helpful in locating articles and information. If you would like search help or research assistance from a Sladen librarian, please contact the library or fill out the Literature Search Request form.

  • PubMed
    Provided by the National Library of Medicine, the PubMed database searches over 21 million biomedical citations from the MEDLINE database and select life science journals.
  • Ovid MEDLINE
    Ovid MEDLINE provides an alternative interface for searching the MEDLINE database.
  • Web of Science
    This database indexes over 12,000 scientific journals including meeting abstracts. Official journal impact factors from the Journal Citation Reports are also accessible from this resource.
  • UpToDate
    UpToDate is a comprehensive evidence-based clinical information resource and is designed to provide concise, practical answers quickly at the point of care. If you would like to access UpToDate off-campus, CLICK HERE and login with your HFHS user name and password.
  • Access Medicine
    AccessMedicine is an online resource that provides access to more than 60 medical textbooks, updated content, thousands of images and illustrations, interactive self-assessment, case files, and diagnostic tools.
  • ClinicalKey
    ClinicalKey is a clinical insight search engine that delivers access to authoritative medical and surgical content from Elsevier. ClinicalKey provides over 500 full text journals, over 1000 reference books, Procedures Consult videos, and more. Watch this short mini-tour for tips on getting started.
  • Cochrane Library
    The Cochrane Library provides access to high quality, evidence-based medical literature. The database searches Cochrane systematic reviews, clinical trials, and other resources.
  • DynaMed
    A premier point-of-care, evidence-based clinical reference tool which regularly scans more than 500 medical journals and is updated daily.
  • Mosby's Nursing Resources
    Access to Mosby's Nursing Consult and Mosby's Nursing Skills.

Mobile Drug Resources

  • Micromedex Free Drug Reference (for Apple devices)
    **If you previously used the Micromedex free app on your Apple device, be aware that version has been discontinued as of March 31, 2014. You will need to download the new app and enter in the password located on this page, in order to gain access to the free content.
  • Micromedex Drug Information App (for Android and Windows 8)
    The Micromedex Drug Information app provides concise information on over 4,500 search terms covering generic names, common trade names, dosages, indications, contraindications, adverse effects, and more. This is a stand-alone app available for Android and Windows 8 devices available for FREE to anyone in the US and Canada.

    *Click on "mobileMicromedex" at the top of any Micromedex page for links to Google Play or Windows Store. Once downloaded, the app can be used without an Internet connection, however updates require a wireless connection. For mobile access to the complete Micromedex monographs, see link to "mobileMicromedex 2.0" below.
  • mobileMicromedex 2.0  
      
    MobileMicromedex is web-based, mobile-optimized access to the same content available in the desktop version of Micromedex 2.0. For instructions on how to access, click on 'mobileMicromedex' at the top of any page in Micromedex, then click in the gray bar for 'Access Micromedex from your tablet'. This page has the URL and username/password you will need to enter on your mobile device. Passwords need to be reactivated quarterly; when prompted revisit the mobileMicromedex page from the Sladen link for the new password.
  • Micromedex Drug Interactions App  
      
    This app provides access to drug interactions information from Micromedex. PLEASE NOTE: after downloading the app from your respective store, you will need to enter the password found on the HFHS mobileMicromedex page in order to get FREE access. Passwords need to be reactivated quarterly; when prompted revisit the mobileMicromedex page from the Sladen link for the new password. This app is available for Apple and Android devices.
  • Micromedex IV Compatibility App  
      
    This app provides access to Trissel's 2 IV Compatibility; including Y-Site, Admixture, and Solutions results from the Trissel's 2 database. PLEASE NOTE: after downloading the app from your respective store, you will need to enter the password found on the HFHS mobileMicromedex page in order to get FREE access. Passwords need to be reactivated quarterly; when prompted revisit the mobileMicromedex page from the Sladen link for the new password. This app is available for Apple and Android devices.
  • Epocrates Rx  
      
    Free mobile app available that features over 3500 drug monographs and OTC products, a drug interaction checker, medical calculators, pill identifier, and weekly content updates. Can be used without an Internet connection, however updates require a wireless connection.
  • DailyMed  
      
    This mobile site provides information on marketed drugs as it appears on medication package inserts.
  • LactMed  
      
    From the National Library of Medicine, the LactMed app provides information on maternal and infant drug and chemical levels and their possible side effects.
  • PharmacyLibrary Calculators  
      
    Brought to you by the American Pharmacists Association, this app provides calculators for BMI, body surface area, creatinine clearance, disease risk, Framingham 10-year risk for coronary disease, and ideal body weight.
  • Managing Dabigatran  
      
    This app is intended to help doctors manage patients on the anticoagulant dabigatran. Features include drug information, dose recommendations, interactions, surgery information, and more. The app was developed by hematologist Dr. Paul Harper, and is published by HealthOBs Ltd.
  • NLM Drug Information Portal  
      
    From the National Library of Medicine, this mobile-optimized version of the Drug Information Portal provides name and category information on over 38,000 drugs.
